High average number of daily trips

King Khalid International Airport, which is responsible for its management and operation by the Riyadh Airports Company, witnessed a growth in the number of passengers for the second quarter of the current year 2023, compared to the statistics of 2019, which is the standard year that preceded the Corona pandemic that affected air traffic globally. The number of passengers reached 7.3 million, compared to the second quarter of 2019, during which the number of passengers reached 7.1 million. The average daily number of passengers increased to more than 80,000 passengers, compared to 78,000 passengers per day in the second quarter of 2019.
According to the Riyadh Airports report on the operational performance of the Capital Airport in the second quarter of this year, the number of flights increased by 6% to exceed 51 thousand flights compared to the second quarter of 2019, when the number of flights reached 48 thousand flights, bringing the average number of daily flights to 562. flight compared to 531 flights.
As for travel destinations to and from King Khalid International Airport, the number of destinations to and from the Capital Airport increased during this quarter by 4.6% to reach 90 destinations, including 24 domestic destinations and 66 international destinations, compared to 86 destinations for the same period in 2019. The number of new destinations that were launched during the second quarter of this year to 8 destinations. The most operated domestic destinations during this quarter were Jeddah, Abha, Medina, Dammam, and Jizan, while the most operated international destinations included Dubai, Cairo, Amman, and Doha.
The report indicated that the number of commercial airlines providing transportation and freight services increased by 30% to reach 51 companies, compared to 39 companies in the same period in 2019.
The report stated that the cargo sector at the airport witnessed a growth of 43%, bringing the total number of tons handled to 83,000 tons, compared to 58,000 tons in the same period in 2019.
For his part, the CEO of Riyadh Airports, Mr. Musaed Al-Daoud, explained that this continued growth that we are witnessing at the airport of the capital, Riyadh, reflects the extent of the prestige that the Saudi capital enjoys at the regional and global levels, and also confirms our contribution to achieving the goals of the national strategy for transport and logistics services with regard to the air sector. And the national strategy for the aviation sector under the umbrella of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services and the General Authority of Civil Aviation in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and represents an extension of the development plans and expansion projects that we are working on according to strategic visions in pursuit of our pioneering goals.
Al-Daoud concluded his speech by emphasizing the use of all human, logistical and technical capabilities and preparation in an integrated manner to accommodate the increase in the number of passengers during the seasonal peak periods, stressing at the same time the keenness of Riyadh airports to work in an integrated manner to ensure the provision of the best services to travelers and achieve excellence in the traveler's experience.
