In presence of GACA President HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman launches the Sensory Room at King Khalid International Airport

His Royal Highness, Prince Sultan bin Salman Al Saud, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR), has launched a Sensory Room at the domestic Terminal 5 of King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh, during an opening ceremony that was attended by H.E., Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA, Nabeel A. Al-Jama’, Senior vice president of the Human Resources & Corporate Services at Saudi Aramco and Eng. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Maghlouth, the CEO of Riyadh Airports Company (RAC).

 

On this occasion, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman said, “We are proud to launch this initiative in cooperation with our partners to facilitate the experience for children with disabilities and their families traveling through the airports.”

 

His Royal Highness added, “Through this initiative, we aim to make our airports more compatible with the needs of persons with disabilities of all forms, and to empower and integrate them into society. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his government for providing support and care to all people with disabilities. Special thanks also goes to our partners the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Riyadh Airports Company and Saudi Aramco.”

 

Eng. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Maghlouth said, “Riyadh Airports Company provides services through King Khalid International Airport at the highest standards to serve all segments of society. We constantly look forward to developing new initiatives that contribute to empowering people with disabilities, and facilitating their experience at the airport.”

 

He added, “We are proud of our partnership with the King Salman Center for Disability Research and Saudi Aramco in implementing this initiative, who have spared no effort in their support for this facility.”

 

Kholoud Ibrahim Al-Shaya, project manager of the initiative said: “The Sensory Room is equipped with entertainment and educational tools, and devices that simulate different natural environments and motivate different senses such as sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, to allow children with disabilities feel connected to their surrounding environment and learn more about it.”

 

She added: “This initiative is the first of its kind to be implemented in middle east airports and was designed based on the need to facilitate travel for children with disabilities and relieve pressures on their families while traveling through airports.  So far, KSCDR has implemented this initiative in two locations in Riyadh KKIA and King Fahd Medical City, and is discovering implementing it in other public facilities.
